Time Out says

Elizabeth Spencer's baroque, almost Jamesian novel of New World corruption versus Old World integrity is brought to the screen in the form of a 'grand tour' of North Italy. In the course of this, Olivia de Havilland tries to marry off her mentally retarded daughter (Mimieux) to a wealthy Italian (Hamilton). Sadly, it quickly falls prey to that most awesome of cinema's horrors - Rossano Brazzi - as attraction develops between de Havilland and the boy's father. A terrible film.
