Arriving less than two months after his unbearable The Groomsmen, Looking for Kitty puts moviegoers in serious danger of Edward Burns overload. This time out, he plays a prickly New York detective hired by an upstate baseball coach (Krumholtz) whose wife has run off with an Elvis Costello--like rock star (Baker). Looking for Kitty is nothing special, but it’s much looser and less schematic than The Groomsmen—the low-budget DV production seems to have stifled Burns’s natural tendency to wring the life out of his scripts. Rachel Dratch contributes a few nice bits as a voluble alcoholic. (Opens Fri; Quad.) — Joshua Land
