Time Out says

One of Conway's better movies, thanks to perfect casting and a brightly inventive script. Powell and Loy, both in cracking form, are blissfully celebrating their fourth anniversary when he gets stuck in a lift with an old flame (Patrick). Complications ensue, mother-in-law (Bates) gleefully smells a rat, and Loy sues for divorce. Powell obtains a postponement on the grounds of insanity (which he demonstrates at every opportunity). Loy retaliates by having him committed; he escapes disguised as his sister; and... well, it all comes out in the wash. This is screwball territory, so questions of implausibility or tastelessness don't really come into it; besides, it really is very funny, with every member of the cast contributing. Highlights include Powell's wonderfully refined drag act, and his efforts to explain, for the benefit of a lunacy commission, what a runaway cockatoo and playing boats with top hats in the swimming-pool had to do with his falling naked out of a tree onto a patio full of party guests.
