Beginning as a shining example of a mockumentary, then curdling into a private
joke, Mail Order Wife features an offscreen narrator-director named
Andrew (Gurland) interviewing Adrian (Martinez), a working-class slob from
Queens who registers with a matchmaking service that hooks up Third World women
with American men. A Burmese maiden is successfully summoned. But when the
situation becomes abusive, Andrew lamely steps in front of the camera to
confront his subject. Unfortunately, as Andrew loses his luster so does the film.
