Yet another documentary in the swelling subgenre about gay couples entering
parenthood, Making Grace has a decidedly low-key appeal. Aside from their
"alternative lifestyle," charming lesbian would-be moms Ann and Leslie are
perfectly average. The film is not all sugar and spice. Ann's conservative,
suburban sister, Mary, is wary of explaining to her children why Grace, the
couple's bubbly newborn, has two mommies, and this leads to a tense conversation
between the siblings. But overall, Grace is one lucky kid: She's being raised by
two loving parents in a tight-knit community. Is there any better argument in
favor of lesbian motherhood.
