The second film of a cinematographer turned indie director is a brave portrait of a country boy coming to Beijing and embarking on a homosexual lifestyle (to the chagrin of the lady who's taken him under her wing). It was written in less than a week, shot on the hoof, and indeed may never be seen in China. To Western sensibilities, it's low key with an earnest, observational style mixed haphazardly with some wacky, OTT comedy (mostly emanating from the character of a radio DJ carrying out a study of Beijing's public toilets).
