If you have ever wondered about the impact of 17 years in high-security solitary confinement then Frenchman Michel Vaujour is your man. This film, a document of this lengthy period of suffering, is a little jail-like itself due to its lengthy duration and limited on-screen action. Yet, Vaujour’s story is not about captivity but escape, as the film tells of friends and lovers who actually helped to spring him from jail (an improbable five times, plus once by helicopter!). Part audacious prison break movie, part philosophical tract, ‘My Greatest Escape’ is a story ripping tale of a man who the authorities just couldn’t keep down.
