A compulsive account of Toichi Nakata's return to Osaka to tell his Japanese-Korean family, who want him home and married, that he plans to stay in the West as a film-maker. An illuminating look at Japanese family life (dad is a misanthropic tyrant) and a study of the difficult relationship between Japanese and Koreans, the film has an almost confrontational frankness that belies some of the conventionally polite behaviour on view.
