Sprawling comic saga of four middle-aged lads about Paris; and very typical fare from Yves Robert, who bestrides MOR French cinema like a colossus, at least in terms of quantity and popularity. Robert isn't short of good gags; unfortunately he isn't short of bad ones, either, and seems unable or unwilling to fit his horde into any coherent shape or maintain any coherent tone. Rochefort is always watchable as the would-be rake, while Danièle Delorme's performance as his spirited wife saves the film from being unpleasantly chauvinist. All in all, it's bearable.
