Time Out says
Generally regarded as the greatest soccer player of all time, Pele is one of those legendary sporting figures – like Muhammed Ali, Magic Johnson or Steve Davis – whose appeal extends beyond the limits of their chosen field (or, in this case, pitch). This biopic arrives courtesy of fraternal writer-director team Jeff and Michael Zimbalist, whose previous works include music doc ‘Favela Rising’. Pele will mark their first step into dramatic filmmaking, and stars newcomer Kevin de Paula in the lead role, backed by a solid selection of supporting players including Vincent D’Onofrio, Colm Meaney, Rodrigo Santoro and terrific Brazilian actor-musician Seu Jorge, whose turn in ‘The Life Aquatic’ made Latino covers of Bowie hits briefly cool.
