The Rashevskis are a relatively religious lot—until the specter of death rattles the paradigm. Dolfo (Cogan) is en route to his sister’s funeral when their rabbi brother (Alkalai) renounces a woman who’d rather tango than pray. Only this modern heathen has secretly bought a plot in a Jewish cemetery, which stokes a heated debate among the clan’s elders. The kids, meanwhile, consider abandoning tradition and marrying outside the flock. Director Sam Garbarski’s focus occasionally skews narrow, but he does evoke the anxiety of reconciling a strict faith with secular times.
