The lesson to be taken away from Red is that, after some killin’, the only thing that can make someone feel better is a new puppy. During a fishing trip, the dog of Avery Ludlow (Cox) is shot by a psychotic teen (Fisher). Avery just wants an apology, but when the law won’t help him, he takes up his own brand of vigilantism. Cox tries his best, but gets to shine only when delivering a monologue on his grisly family history. It begs to be elaborated upon, and is infinitely more worthy of screen time than this canine lovefest.
