After some years apart, Billy reunites with pregnant girlfriend Ruby and their old school ally Sammy, and drives them to their now abandoned school, a children's home on the Northumberland coast. Here, Billy hopes to resurrect the unconventional family unit he presided over as a boy (cue interminable flashback). A thin script gets strained, pretentious treatment from a director who's evidently more interested in emblems than characters. Ropey performances, self-consciously arty compositions and undistinguished camerawork.
