Built around the anthropology of carnival life and the phenomenon of geocaching, Brant Sersen’s rom-com is equal parts Hollywood meet-cute and quirky coming-of-age tale. Listless loser Justin Frost (Middleditch) meets a game-booth operator—known as a splinterhead—named Galaxy (Taylor), who searches for hidden containers in her spare time. It’s no surprise that the blond-haired beauty falls for the awkward slacker, though the lovey-dovey aspects are unconvincing due to zero chemistry between the performers. For a better courtship story set amongst the world of cotton candy and Tilt-a-Whirls, rent Adventureland instead.
