The British release title was a cruel irony, since Judy Garland did not feel like singing. Indeed, after the six months of shooting were completed, she was fired by MGM and slashed her own throat with a broken glass. The picture added to her depression: it's just a rehash of all those juvenile Garland-Rooney affairs, with farm girl Judy outraged that her barn has been loaned to a theatre troupe to put on a show, falling in love with Kelly, and becoming a star. The undisputed highlight is Garland's great number 'Get Happy', filmed three months after principal photography and when she had lost a considerable amount of excess weight.
