Time Out says
To see costumed heroes in the pages of comic books isn't unusual; to witness someone running around your neighborhood in tights and a mask is enough to make you go, "Wha?" Michael Barnett's doc on actual flesh-and-blood caped crusaders neither outright mocks these would-be Batmen nor takes them super seriously; the film hovers between the two poles, even when guys like Orlando, Florida's beer-swilling Master Legend unsuccessfully tries to woo coeds. Eventually, the sense that Bartlett seems far more in love with the novelty of his subject undermines the notions that these real-life crime fighters make a difference in an apathetic world or that these brave-slash-foolish are delusional to a fault.
