Australian writer/director Ruane followed his first film, the sparkling black comedy Death in Brunswick, with this very different, mystical rites-of-passage chronicle. When his father is returned home in a coma after a car accident, 12-year-old Ort (Croft) places his faith in a charismatic stranger (Coyote) to effect a cure. But what role in the healing process has the weird light which the boy spots in the sky above the house? The emotional knots of a problem family are played against an unfussily supernatural background affecting all their lives. Hard to categorise, but ultimately haunting.
