“I don’t want anyone playing me,” Little Edie says with horror in this collection of disjointed outtakes from the Maysles brothers’ verite smash, Grey Gardens (1975). The inimitable fallen aristocrat—locked into a folie deux with her bedridden mama, Big Edie, in East Hampton squalor—has had her wish violated: Christine Ebersole donned a sweater as snood in the Off Broadway musical, and Drew Barrymore is attached to play her in an upcoming movie. For those wishing to hear the original staunch woman warble more standards from the Great American Songbook, The Beales of Grey Gardens is the film for you.
