Here's a marketable idea for a documentary: Hübner follows four young footballers in Borussia Dortmund's youth team from 1998 through the next three years as they try to break into the reserves and then into the first team squad. Better yet, of the four, two are from afar: Mo is a devout Muslim from Ghana, and Claudio is from Chile. He thinks he's the next Salas, but according to the reserves coach, 'He's not just miles away from it, he's light years away.' As the seasons pass, and the players have their ups and downs, the film is inevitably moving - and a salutary reminder of the hard slog behind the headlines. Sub-Hoop Dreams and not helped by the players' inarticulacy, the film will, nevertheless, ring true to anyone interested in sport.
