When Victor returns from Argentina to visit his dying father Max, concerns about his mental health also arise. Max is convinced he's in danger, trapped 'in a city with no limits', and thus incapable of saving the mysterious 'Rancel'. Persuaded to help him escape and find Rancel, Victor embarks on a journey into the past his mother would rather he hadn't taken. If the attractive cast and soaring strings sometimes make it feel like a telenovella. It's good-looking and well-paced film, and Fernán-Gómez's Max makes for a suitably paranoid but eminently sympathetic character.
