Siegel's first Western and his first film in colour (very nicely shot by Irving Glassberg). Statutory stuff about wicked claim-jumpers and the quick-draw artiste who sees justice done. But it's handled with great verve and more than a suspicion of tongue-in-cheek by Siegel, who rewrote as much as he could, giving the characters outrageous names (Silver Kid, Lightning Tyrone, Opal Lacy, Tinhorn Burgess), stretching the amorous complications and the villainies into near-absurdity, and building up a special explosive bit for Marvin in one of his earliest roles.
