The Great Garrick

Not the 'ponderous biography' of Steven Scheuer's Movies on TV, but an unusual, comical divertissement in which the legendary 18th century English actor accepts an invitation to the Comédie Française in Paris, announcing that he'll teach them a thing or two about their craft. When they catch wind of his remark, the entire French company stages an elaborate hoax at a country inn in an attempt to humiliate their guest (who has a trick or two in hand). A swish, witty production with a droll performance from the underrated Aherne as David Garrick.
