When their son died during Israeli army training, Herman and Daniela Hiller refused to believe the official suicide verdict, and their determination to seek the truth ran to extraordinary lengths. Holding a news conference in their home with the freshly exhumed coffin publicises their plight and, when the army grants a neutral foreign pathologist a second autopsy, they remain with the body in the mortuary to guard against potential foul play before his arrival. As this startling, deftly observed documentary makes clear, the Hillers’ faith in the state of Israel takes a terrible battering during this bitterly tragi-comic ordeal.
