One of the movies that looks as though it was trying to prepare the American public for entry to the war in Europe, Fox's drama (from the novel Swastika by Oscar Shisgall) grafts a propaganda element on to a story of domestic discord. Bennett is the American wife left to battle for custody of her son when German husband Lederer's trip home winds him over to the Nazis and he decides to stay on. Although simplistic, the film's portrait of life under the Third Reich (where Czechs sweep the streets and beating drums whip up the crowds at public meetings) is unquestionably persuasive.
