Gossip Girl’s defiantly uninteresting Penn Badgley brings the boring to a Disturbia-like role of investigating teen in this underheated remake of an ’80s gem. His mom’s found bliss with her new fianc (Walsh), a secret serial killer who preys on divorced families. All of the suspense is telegraphed in droning music, and the movie can barely work up a proper head of parental menace. Still, any flashes of craft are eclipsed by multiple tush shots of the supremely distracting Amber Heard, rarely not in a bikini. She’s set up as an obvious target, but the camera can only ogle.—Joshua Rothkopf
