The Toast of New Orleans

Mario Lanza belts out 'Be My Love' and that's almost all you need to know about this rudimentary vehicle, retaining the romantic partnership from the previous year's star-making extravaganza That Midnight Kiss. This time Lanza's a humble Louisiana fisherman who becomes the tenor at the turn-of-the-century New Orleans opera house, where he quickly sets his sights on Grayson, the diva in Madam Butterfly. Niven, the show's director, looks as though he'd rather be elsewhere.
