The True Story of Eskimo Nell

Entertainment from every orifice in this visceral demonstration of just what Australia stands for in the world today: boozing, screwing, pissing, spewing, farting, swearing, etc. It purports to be a version of the ballad in which legendary Eskimo Nell is sought by Deadeye Dick and Mexico Pete - now owner of 'the most famous prick in the southern hemisphere'. Ninety percent of the film is atrocious; but there are enough striking moments in the remainder - overtones of impotence and voyeurism, the odd sunset and bit of music, sepia tinting - to give it the occasional balladic feel and look. These moments are a long time coming, though, and as everything else is in such a different gear the overall effect is a pretty shithouse...or is that a strine compliment?
