The Wildcats of St Trinian's
Time Out says
Launder and Gilliat's series about the dreadful girls' boarding school, inspired by Ronald Searle's cartoons, revived after a 14-year absence from the screen. Too late. The '60s versions were already failing in their attempt to find contemporary material on which to hang the myth (for that's what it had become - weekend wet dreams for suburbia). This one should never have been made: the old stock actors (Grenfell, Sim, et al) have died; the storyline is feebly offensive (the girls kidnap the daughter of a rich Arab to press their demand for Trade Union recognition of their strike); and the repressed anarchic energy of the '50s originals (Amazons for Chaos) has just dribbled away into more page three cheesecake.
