Joel McCrea is the reluctant outlaw who robs the bank when it won't lend him the money he needs to help his father - and to show he's no ordinary thief he leaves an IOU. Charles Bickford, always a commanding screen presence, is the town's new marshal, Pat Garrett, who pursues him across the desert.
