Odd British documentary centred on the mysterious deaths of eight Dakota Sioux over 18 months on the Pine Ridge reservation. Are the murders racially motivated? Is there a reluctance to find the killer? Writer/director Hopkins seems less concerned with following through and uncovering the killer's identity, than in exploring the textures and parameters of contemporary Native American life, with poverty, alcoholism, unemployment and deep social divisions predominant. It's an ambitious movie, with Hopkins musing to camera about its ramifications and purpose. But its also too long and, structurally, a bit of a mess.
