Rough and ready documentary on the state of modern Italian cinema and how the mainstream media and funding bodies treat the country’s artistic luminaries with something close to contempt. It takes a good fifteen minutes for the filmmakers to find their feet, and after a number of ‘creatively’ deployed clips from Pasolini and others, the interviews begin and an argument – much of which would probably apply to most European national cinemas – takes shape. The high point is Ken Loach’s tirade against Hollywood hegemony: ‘They make hamburgers for the mind!’
