Planning your Ganpati visarjan in the city? Or a visit to Juhu or Versova on Friday? Heads up. Mumbai Traffic Police have announced extensive traffic restrictions for Ganpati Visarjan 2026 across multiple western and eastern suburbs. This will happen on Friday, September 25, 2026, on Anant Chaturdashi, when lakhs of devotees in the city are expected to take part in idol immersions and other visarjan processions.
These road diversions, closures, one-way routes, and no-parking zones will remain in force on a temporary basis to keep both Ganpati Visarjan processions and traffic moving safely. Juhu, Andheri, Malad, Borivali, and Mulund are some of the areas to be affected by traffic restrictions across Mumbai. So whether you are chasing dhol-tasha or just trying to make it to brunch or dinner on time, using the Mumbai Metro or local trains is a better idea.
Which parts of Mumbai will face traffic restrictions during Ganpati Visarjan?
The restrictions across Mumbai's western and eastern suburbs are planned to avoid traffic congestion and ensure public safety as a major crowd participates in the procession every year. These are the areas to remain affected on September 25, 2026:
Andheri-Juhu: Expect closures on Caesar Road, J.P. Road, and Juhu-Versova Link Road – plus restrictions on parking vehicles at J.P. Road, Achyutrao Patwardhan Marg, Versova Link Road, and S.V. Road.
Juhu Tara Road will remain closed between Tulip Star Junction and Koliwada Junction whenever the Ganpati Visarjan procession passes through. Similarly, Juhu Church Road will be restricted to access, while Gulmohar Road and V.M. Road will operate as one-way stretches. No vehicles will be permitted to park on Juhu Tara Road and Juhu Church Road.
Goregaon-Malad road restrictions: Motorists heading towards Marve Beach will need to brace for diversions as Marve Road will be closed from S.V. Road Junction to Mith Chowli – parts of S.V. Road and M.G. Road in Malad will remain shut. The alternative routes suggested are via Ramchandra Lane and Link Road.
Kandivali-Borivali: Multiple roads across Kandivali – Damu Anna Date Marg, Bandarpakhadi Road and Marve Road leading to Marve Chowpatty – will face traffic restrictions. Additionally, Marve Road will remain shut from Marve Chowpatty to T-Junction.
Similarly, L.T. Road near Don Bosco Junction towards the jetty in Borivali will remain closed, and the traffic diversions will be implemented towards the opposite lane. Additionally, Babu Bagwe Road along the river bank will be shut.
Eastern Suburbs: Across the Eastern suburbs, Deendayal Upadhyay Marg (Dumping Road) and Tank Road in Bhandup West will remain closed, while Paanch Rasta, L.B.S. Marg, Devidayal Road, and roads near Mulund railway station can be used.
In Chembur, there will be restrictions on R.C. Marg and Hemu Kalani Marg or diversions towards Ganpati Visarjan immersion sites – plus heavy vehicles will be prohibited. Additionally, there will be prohibitions on parking on Eastern Express Highway connectors and areas around Chunabhatti Fatak in the Chunabhatti area.
Similarly, heavy vehicles will be restricted at some sections of Ghatkopar-Mankhurd Link Road and BPT Road in the Mankhurd and Trombay traffic division on the visarjan date.
As the time to bid a heartfelt farewell to Ganpati Bappa comes closer, you should avoid unnecessary travel through these routes and follow on-ground instructions by police – and definitely allow yourself extra travel time throughout the day.
