A bit of a departure from the down-home, family oriented Greek tavernas, Opson offers a somewhat more upscale Greek culinary experience in the up-and-coming neighborhood of Westend/Schwanthalerhohe. Opson’s seafood options are varied, but a standout highlight is the calamari with sesame, vegetables and a yogurt dip. The food is elegantly presented with a friendly Mediterranean flair. Ask your server for a recommendation of wine or an aperitif to match your meal, and if you’ve got room after calamari (and possibly several other dishes), try some ekmek kataifi, a clotted cream pastry.
Time Out tip: Spending the day in Westend is a great way to experience a true Munich neighborhood in fine form. Sure, during Oktoberfest it’s packed with tourists, but during the rest of the year it offers the transit museum, some lovely parks, boutique shopping and trendy cafes- and of course, delicious Greek food.
