Friday, June 5: "CDI Foundations" (0.7 CEUs)
Well known presenter and RID Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), Amy Peterson, will be holding a workshop for Deaf individuals who are interested in becoming a RID CDI. This workshop will be covering the role of the CDI and how a CDI is requested. Participants will be shown the overview of the role and responsibility of a CDI and the Code of Ethics/Code of Professional Conduct promulgated by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID).

Saturday, June 6: "Teaming With CDI" (0.7 CEUs)
Deaf participants and Interpreters will come together to explore varied approaches for working effectively in Deaf/hearing interpreter teams. This workshop will introduce interpreters to issues and ethical considerations relevant to working within different types of legal and mental health settings. Interpreters will explore issues related to interpersonal and intrapersonal demands and controls when interpreting. We will examine the “traditional” concepts of team and role and then modify to fit newer models of interpreting that include sensitivity to cultures, privilege, and trust issues. This is very interactive with ample opportunities to practice (within and across teams) negotiating with each other, dealing with pressure from Deaf and hearing consumers, strategies for dealing with unexpected problems, and much more.

Both workshops will last from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room at Bridges, located at 935 Edgehill Avenue, Nashville, TN 37203. Light refreshments will be provided, and attendees will have a hour lunch break.

The registration deadline is June 1. To register for these workshops, please visit http://bridgesfordeafandhh.org/event/interpreting_workshop.
