We invite you to a day of information and training around current issues relevant in the Black community addressing Why Black Lives Matter. The day will include Continuing Education Credits with an opportunity to not only learn but be apart of solutions we can offer our communities.

Presentations/ Trainings:

Opening: The State of the Black Community
Speaker: Dr. Kevin Washington

Session 1
The Matter of Black Women’s Lives: Identity, Authenticity & Purpose
Speaker: Dr. Huberta Jackson-Lowman
This training will explore issues of Black female identity, the impact of the Maafa and its residual and ongoing effects on Black women’s mental health and their ability to be their authentic selves, and strategies that facilitate healing and embracing the sacred legacy and traditional greatness of Black women.

Session 2:
Healing the Black Community in the Era of Mass Incarceration
Speaker: Dr. Cheryl Tawede Grills
This training will offer an overview of the issues pertaining to the overrepresentation of Black People in the prison system. Additionally, elements on how to heal and restore the Black
community by examining appropriate community policing, trauma informed interventions, and culturally appropriate re-entry programs that work.

The training day will also feature a Student Circle Meet & Greet Lunch (BYOL), and at 6:00 pm a reception will be held, including student poster sessions.

Anyone interested in seeking to learn more about Black Psychology, issues affecting the lives of persons of African decent, strategies and treatment should attend!
