On Saturday, June 4 the popular series Sessions at Steinway continues with saxophonist Evan Cobb as the featured guest. The event takes place on Saturday, June 4 at 1:30pm at the Steinway Piano Gallery of Nashville.

Host and interviewer for this performance will be Craig Havighurst, noted music journalist and host of Music City Roots.

The series combines interview and performance, featuring guest hosts and artists whose work enriches Music City’s jazz and blues scenes.

A New Jersey native, Evan Cobb’s musical studies began at an early age and included oboe, piano, and saxophone. He attended Northwestern University in Chicago, studying both oboe and saxophone and earning a certificate in jazz studies. After six years playing jazz in Chicago. Evan headed back to the east coast to attend SUNY Purchase, where he received a Master’s Degree in jazz, studying with jazz greats including Eric Alexander, Todd Coolman, Jon Faddis, Grant Stewart, Ralph Lalama, John Riley, Steve Wilson, and Javon Jackson.

Since making Nashville his home in the fall of 2008, Evan has worked with myriad ensembles and styles including the Nashville Symphony, the Nashville Jazz Orchestra, The Dynamites featuring Charles Walker, JD Souther, and Aretha Franklin. Cobb keeps a large studio of private students of the saxophone, oboe, flute, and clarinet, heads the Nashville Jazz Workshop Summer Jazz Camp, and leads the monthly jam session at the Nashville Jazz Workshop.

Evan’s debut CD, Falling Up, was released in 2011 and a new CD, Hot Chicken, has just been recorded and will be released in the near future.

Joining Evan for the Session at Steinway will be Joe Davidian (piano), Jonathan Wires (bass), and Derico Watson (drums).

Tickets will be $15, $10 for TJBS members and students. Tickets will be available at the door and online from Brown Paper Tickets.
