The list of ways to celebrate Christmas in 2023 is getting longer than Santa’s record of who’s naughty or nice. From all these cities with glorious Christmas markets and light displays to the holiday destinations that are trending this winter, we really are spoiled for choice.

But before you book a city break to Poznań or some flights to Cancun, hold your reindeer. What could be the star atop the tree of options for getaways this festive season has just been announced, by none other than Airbnb

That’s because the holiday home platform has just listed Santa’s actual post office in Rovaniemi, Finnish Lapland, and it’ll be open for booking next week.

The best part? It’s free – there’s just one tiny catch. Guests who are lucky enough to secure a booking can expect to roll up their sleeves and get stuck into letter handling, and a crash course on ‘elfing’ will be taught by Katja, Chief Elf – I mean, who else would it be?

But don’t worry – after all the emptying mailboxes and stamping letters, guests will be treated to hearty Finnish dishes, a go on a snowmobile, a trip to see the Northern Lights and even a steamy session in the sauna. Not too shabby a reward for a bit of merry admin, right?

‘The elves have been working around the clock to transform Santa Claus’ Cabin into a winter wonderland,’ says Katja. ‘Not only will guests get to sleep in Santa Claus’ Cabin, they’ll also get a sneak peek behind the scenes of the world’s Official Santa Claus’ Post Office during our liveliest time of the year.’

Guests will spend their three nights in Santa Claus’ Cabin, with breakfast and dinner included – he just asks you to remove your snow boots before entering – and they’ll even get complimentary return flights to Heathrow, courtesy of Visit Finland. Here are some snaps of this remarkable little wonderland.
