It’s July, and all your old friends are back on Netflix. It’s truly a month of returns, starting with Charlize Theron’s face-breaking guardian of the world in The Old Guard 2. Speaking of face-breaking, Adam Sandler’s yelling, punching, hard-swinging golf pro is also back at the end of the month in Happy Gilmore 2, the sequel to maybe his most beloved juvenile ’90s comedy. In between, there’s the second and final season of the gothic fantasy series The Sandman, a new sitcom from Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, and a raunchy romcom from Lena Dunham, returning to television with her first co-created series since the era-defining Girls. Here are the 10 titles we’re most excited about coming to Netflix in July, followed by a list of everything hitting the streamer this month.

The Old Guard 2

Charlize Theron re-dyes her hair and returns to action-hero mode in the sequel to the surprisingly successful 2020 comic-book adaptation about a gang of immortal mercenaries. This time out, Uma Thurman is the big bad – and she’s wielding a sword once again.

Premieres Jul 2

The Sandman season 2

The dark fantasy series inspired by the Neil Gaiman comic comes to a somewhat abrupt end. (The showrunners insist that was always the plan and not hastened by the recent sexual assault allegations against its creator.) The final season will drop in two chunks, both arriving this month.

Volume 1 premieres Jul 3, Volume 2 premieres Jul 24

Quarterback season 2

If you’re a high-level professional athlete these days, a camera crew is probably following you, even when you’re not at work. As the title makes clear, this docuseries keeps tabs on three NFL quarterbacks through the course of football season: Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals, Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions and Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings.

Premieres Jul 8

Brick

What if you woke up one day to find yourself walled into your apartment, with no water, wi-fi or cell service? This sci-fi thriller explores that nightmare scenario. Claustrophobics, have a paper bag handy.

Premieres Jul 10

Too Much

Get ready for Lena Dunham Does Emily in Paris. In this case, it’s Meg Stalter In London, as the entertaining Hacks supporting player goes to England in search of a fairy tale and finds a cynical musician played by A Real Pain’s Will Sharpe.

Premieres Jul 10

Untamed

Eric Bana and Sam Neill are park rangers investigating a death in California’s Yosemite National Park. Maybe the setting will help set it apart from the other grim murder mysteries that come along every three months. The photography will certainly be gorgeous.

Premieres Jul 17

Happy Gilmore 2

Adam Sandler’s rageful hockey goon turned pro-golfer returns to join the senior tour and likely get punched by a cameoing celebrity once again. Will it be Bad Bunny, Eminem or Travis Kelce, all of whom are slated to appear?

Premieres Jul 25

WWE Unreal

In pro-wrestling parlance, ‘kayfabe’ is the concept of keeping the secrets of the industry shielded from the public, but even though everyone’s been in on the act for decades, it still seems strange to have a reality show going fully behind the curtain of the pseudo-sport’s biggest company. Sorry, but it’s still real to me, damnit!

Premieres Jul 29

Glass Heart

After a drummer is ousted from her band, she’s recruited into a rising act with an enigmatic frontman, where her musical dreams come true – along with a few nightmares. This Japanese-language drama features original songs from Yojiro Noda of Radwimps, who are apparently a big deal over there.

Premieres Jul 31

Leanne

Leanne

Chuck Lorre, master of the normie sitcom, teams with comedian Leanne Morgan for this CBS-coded multi-camera series about a woman on the edge of 60 forced back into the dating pool after her husband of three decades ditches her for someone younger.
