Few city sights are as iconic as the Moulin Rouge, lighting up the boulevard at the foot of Montmartre. The flamboyant windmill-cabaret must be one of the best-known attractions in all of Paris – and now you can book a stay in one of its hidden rooms.

For three nights only, Airbnb will host a couple in the famous structure on the Boulevard de Clichy. The room has been done up like a nineteenth-century boudoir: all blush-coloured fabrics, extravagant flower displays and candlelit dressing tables. There are even love letters tossed around the room from effusive admirers, plus a miniature paper model of a theatre.

Guests are also treated to a peek behind the Moulin Rouge’s velvet curtain, as the stays include a private backstage tour. There’ll also be the chance to meet lead dancer, Claudine van den Bergh, who doubles up as the Airbnb ‘host’. And you’ll have the best seats in the house for the current show, ‘Féerie’, which features more than 1,000 costumes (and loads of Cancan).

Oh, and naturally there’ll be plenty of food, including a rooftop aperitif, a three-course dinner prepared by the resident chef and a classic Parisian petit déj in the morning.

Perhaps most exciting of all, a night at the Moulin Rouge will only cost you €1 ($1.05 or 84p). That’s if you’re lucky enough to get a spot, as it’s likely to be extremely competitive. There are just three one-night stays (on June 13, 20 and 27) – all available on a first come, first served basis. Booking opens on May 17 at 6pm BST via the official Airbnb listing. Bonne chance!
