Sure, nature documentaries are great, but sometimes – for good reason – they can get a bit doomy. If you prefer your animal content a bit more lighthearted, take a look at the shortlist for the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2021. The natural world is shown in all its weird and wonderful glory, from pushy otter parenting to fishy gymnastics. Founded in 2015, the awards rely on public vote to find the overall winner – so head over to their website to back your favourite. 

Among the highlights is Clemence Guinard’s shot of a baboon, snapped looking like it’s mid-song. The photographer said the primate was half-way through a yawn, but looked so well groomed that it could have been on stage – ‘ready to please its public and to start its tenor’s solo’.
