What makes a city smart – is it innovative green tech, efficient public transport, great job opportunities, a strong focus on sustainability?
According to the newest Smart City Index by tech company ProptechOS, it’s all of the above. Everything from the accessibility of wifi to the number of trees, airports and tech jobs was analysed by the platform, and a new ‘smartest city’ for 2024 has been crowned.
The city in question? It’s Paris! The French capital scored 91.8 out of 100 in connectivity and infrastructure and 89.1 in the tech job market, and while it only gained 51.4 in green infrastructure, the overall score amounted to 76.4.
Paris overtook 2023’s winner, London, which slipped into second place with a score of 73.1, but scored much better in green infrastructure specifically, with 63 in that category. Third place went to Amsterdam with 72.8 overall but an impressive 75.4 in green infrastructure, the highest on the list. God bless those bikes, eh?
