Getting married has proved a bit of a struggle over the past couple of years. What’s supposed to be the best of a person’s life turned into a logistical nightmare, as distancing curbs hit everything from guest numbers to venue choice. But fortunately, it seems those days are behind us.

Now, one Italian region – Lazio, which includes the capital Rome – is jumping on the backlog of engaged couples by offering them €2,000 to book weddings there. Couples can redeem the money on everything from cake and wedding attire to flowers, photographers and catering.

So why are they doing this? Well, a lot of people like to get married in these parts and the sector has suffered greatly over the past two years, with ceremonies slumping from 15,000 per year to 9,000. When you think about the number of guests who attend these things, that’s a lot of money the region has potentially missed out on.

The offer runs through 2022 and is open both to locals and foreigners. But if you do want to get in on the act, you better be quick, as the ‘Lazio in Love’ fund only has €10 million in it. When that money runs out, the scheme is over.
