From ‘Anora’ to ‘Poor Things’: our best movies of the year are finally here

The votes are in, and Time Out’s top ten films of the year have been revealed.
At the top of the list is Jonathan Glazer’s Oscar-winning vision of the Holocaust, The Zone of Interest, a film described by Time Out’s critic as ‘stunning, challenging and disturbing’.
At number two is Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things, a riotously funny picaresque starring Emma Stone as a young woman on a journey of sexual awakening across 19th century Europe, and Mark Ruffalo as the year’s biggest buffoon.
Dune: Part Two, Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi sequel, lands at number three, while Andrew Haigh’s ghostly, melancholy and utterly beautiful queer romance All of Us Strangers one place below.
In fifth place is a likely frontrunner for the 2025 Academy Awards: Sean Baker’s Anora, with Mikey Madison as a sex worker whose gig escorting the son of an oligarch goes off the rails in magnificent style.
