Lena Dunham and her husband Luis Felber’s new Netflix romantic-comedy series Too Much is notable for many things: for being a love letter to the British romcom of Richard Curtis and Hugh Grant’s adorable, floppy fringe. For launching a new star in Hacks’ Megan Stalter and reaffirming the comedy credentials of an established one in Will Sharpe. And for being an out-and-out blast.
But don’t look past its soundtrack too. A bumper record box’s worth of psych ballads, hip hop classics, pop anthems, folky flexes, and girlboss bangers from artists as diverse as Fiona Apple, Fred Again and Carole King, it reflects a show with music stitched into its DNA.
Felber, embodied in fictionalised form by Will Sharpe’s indie musician Felix in the show, even provides a few cues of his own. His musical alter ego, Attawalpa, gets a couple of airings over the ten episode run.
