The summer holidays are over and the kids are back at school, but the drama is only beginning on Channel 5.
The Teacher is back for a second series after becoming one of the channel’s biggest-ever hits back in 2022.
While that series was filmed in Budapest (but set in Bradford!), the second series shoot location was nearer to home for the cast and crew, with locations in Ireland doubling up as Stockport, Manchester.
This anthology series has a completely standalone story to the previous series, with an all-star cast of British telly legends.

Where is The Teacher filmed?
Filming for The Teacher took place across Ireland, with locations including the coastal town of Bray in County Wicklow and Sandyford in Dublin, doubling up as Stockport, Manchester.
The fateful school trip scenes were filmed at Lough Dan, a lake that can be found in the heart of the Wicklow Mountains, about an hour’s drive from the centre of Dublin. This is the same location used for historical drama, Vikings.
Who is in The Teacher cast?
Kara Tointon as Dani Oxley, a popular teacher who is struggling in her marriage and starts an affair with a colleague. Dani faces backlash when a student dies under her supervision on a school trip. Kara Tointon is best known for her roles on EastEnders and Mr Selfridge.
Emmett J. Scanlan portrays Dani’s husband Tim. The Viewers might recognise Emmett from his roles in Peaky Blinders, Hollyoaks, Fool Me Once and Kin.
Will Mellor as Jimmy, another teacher at the school who joins Dani on the fateful school trip. Will made his name on British sitcom Two Pints of lager and a Packet of Crisps, before going on to tackle dramatic roles in Broadchurch and most recently, Mr Bates vs The Post Office.
The students are portrayed by Cal O’Driscoll as doomed loner Zac, Ebby O’Toole-Acheampong as Chloe, Forrest Bothwell as Matt, and Joni Morris as Sienna.
What happens in The Teacher?
Dani (Kara Tointon) is a passionate art teacher, popular with students and colleagues but unhappy with her marriage, sparking an affair with fellow teacher Jimmy (Will Mellor) that spins out of control during a school trip.
A student vanishes under Dani’s watch, prompting her to lie about her whereabouts and the affair, putting her marriage before justice.
Dani is consumed by guilt as a murder investigation unfolds and brings up dark secrets and rivalries that will have fateful consequences for the teachers and students of the school.
Soon she realises she’s been manipulated and used to cover up an illicit relationship. As shocking revelations unfold, Dani risks everything to right the wrongs that she’s responsible for and bring justice to her students.

The first episode of The Teacher’s second series aired on Channel 5 on Monday, September 10.
The Teacher continues tonight at 9pm on Channel 5, with the following two episodes set to air on Wednesday and Thursday at the same time.

What happened in series 1 of The Teacher?
The first series of The Teacher aired in 2022, with Sheridan Smith in the lead role as teacher Jenna Garvey, who is falsely accused of having a sexual relationship with a student as part of a revenge plot.
The story isn’t linked to the second season but does explore similar themes of consent, power dynamics and the consequences of false allegations and scandalous secrets.
