Exploring The Layers Of A Food Forest

Florida School of Holistic Living says
Food Forests have been planted by humans for thousands of years and recently, the concept was adopted into the Permaculture movement. These productive forests are self-feeding systems that incorporates fruit and nut trees, shrubs, herbs, vines and perennial vegetables that work together to provide food and medicine, animal habitats, and other goods. This concept incorporates companion planting and guilds as well.
We are seeing how crucial these designs can be in our landscapes due to their productivity, sustainability, and efficiency. In this class, we will wander through the 7+ layers of a Food Forest and explore the importance and key characteristics of each layer. Let's start growing!

Instructor Michele Bumbier is a permaculture practitioner with a background in horticulture.
She works frequently with herbalism, pollinators, and Florida Native plants. Her passion for bridging the gap between society and Nature began in 2012 when she intuitively created her first garden. The rewards were not just edible, but spiritual. This activated her desire to teach others about the endless benefits of gardening.

Michele has cultivated a strong spiritual practice communicating with Nature through intentional gardening. She uses her intuition to create and install permaculture landscapes that provide peace of mind to the resident, an abundance of food, and a special sanctuary for reconnecting with Earth. She has installed numerous organic gardens for various clients. She works extensively with children as well, teaching them the importance of protecting and honoring Nature. Michele is currently the program coordinator for Fleet Farming, teaching with The Living School Orlando, and furthering her path in herbalism.
