Time Out says

Gain hands on experience & have fun making your own healthy, inexpensive, and effective herbal personal care products, using the finest all natural & organic ingredients. The majority of personal care products commercially available today, even among those claiming to be “all-natural”, or “green”, contain synthetic chemicals, detergents, fragrances, petrochemicals & known allergens & irritants. Scientists are increasingly finding evidence that dozens of everyday chemicals from products like sunscreen, shampoo & conditioner, moisturizers, cosmetics, anti-bacterial agents found in soaps & body wash, as well as prescription medications pass right through treatment plants and into the earth & waterways across the country. We’ll discuss the physical imbalances & dis-ease that the use of these chemicals causes in humans, and the damage they cause to the environment, soil, wildlife, our waterways & marine life. You’ll create products employing natural &/or organic, when available, alternative ingredients to these harsh chemicals, protecting & improving your health & the health of your family. You'll be making your home a safer place to live and you'll be a more responsible steward of the earth & its resources. This workshop, the first in a four-part series, will cover the chemicals used in the beauty care industry & their dangerous effects on the human body, specifically to our endocrine & reproductive systems, our earth & our oceans. We will also discuss the multi-functional role our skin plays in absorbing, protecting & detoxifying our bodies as well as the basics of herbal skin cleansing. You will create an 8 oz. organic herbal body wash, 8 oz. of Rosemary Gladstar's Famous Moist Exfoliating Miracle Face Grains & 8 oz. of Dry Exfoliating Miracle Face Grains, enabling you to continue creating more Moist Miracle Grains long after this class ends, 8 oz. of organic foaming hand soap & an organic probiotic deodorant. Retail value of these products can easily exceed $60.00. You will also receive a booklet containing some of my favorite recipes. Since the 1970’s she’s been involved with food co-ops, actively protested the building of nuclear power plants & has been involved with different organizations & programs to protect Mother Earth, in those days it was called ecology rather than sustainability, but the focus remains the same, protecting Mother Earth and her resources. These interests made Donna acutely aware of the chemicals contained in the products we use in our daily lives and the dangers they pose to people, animals, our water & the earth. Wanting to protect herself, her family & the earth, Donna began making her own organic personal care products & medicines. It was this involvement & concern that prompted Donna to begin her formal herbal studies, evolving into a Community Herbalist was a natural progression. She’s honored to have trained with several of the most revered herbalists, spiritual teachers & healers of our time and including a proud alumni of the Florida School of Holistic Living. She continues to further her education having studied Herbal First Aid, Aromatherapy, Facial Diagnostics & Integrative Naturopathic Oncology & she completed her herbal teacher training with Rosemary Gladstar, the “Godmother of Modern Herbalism.” Residing in central Florida where she continues her work as a steward of Mother Earth, Donna is an avid gardener, a Community Herbalist, Flower Essence Practitioner & Reiki Master with her own herbal practice aiding people in achieving natural health & wellness through education, nutrition and plant & spirit medicine.
