We’ve all heard the recent and continuous reports in the media of the gender pay gap. Celebrities have given speeches on the issue, and numerous studies have come out attempting to support or debunk the inequality claims. But what’s left in the wake of all of these viewpoints is a very confusing trail of conflicting information that would leave anyone scratching their heads.

Recognizing the complexity of this issue, the ladies of Femfessionals decided a discussion was in order. Starting on 11/11, we will begin our first ever educational series. We will explore the gender pay gap. Our hope is that women in the Central Florida community can come together to learn about, discuss and reflect on this, to date, elusive issue that has an enormous impact on the lives of women, their families and their communities.

Our first event in the series will start, as it should, at the beginning. On 11/11 join us for an overview of the history of women in the workforce. UCF Professor Patricia Farless will take us through the years, as we explore why and how women entered the workforce and how their participation has evolved over the decades. Amanda Parish Walters, School Services Manager of the Orange County Regional History Center, will also be sharing with us a handful of amazing images of working women throughout the centuries, from their archives.
