#WKP71, Fall II Session

Pastels allow you to work with the purest form of color available to artists. For this reason, some artists have referred to pastels as “raw color.” The participants in this workshop will gain experience in using various types of this exciting medium and applying them to a wide range of surfaces. A particular focus will be on underpainting with an alcohol wash, and how to take advantage of the color harmony wheel in making color choices. Students will work from their own photographs.

Gary Rupp studied Studio Art at Wheaton College, Illinois, and trained with well-known pastelists Albert Handell, Maggie Price, Doug Dawson and Michael Chesley Johnson. His paintings have been juried into national exhibitions at The Bascom, Highlands, N.C.; The Cornwell Center, Charlotte, N.C., and recently at the 26th International Association of Pastel Societies, Albuquerque, N.M. Rupp is a frequent participant in paint-outs in Florida, and vice president of the Appalachian Pastel Society.
