Time Out Market Osaka keeps on evolving. The food and cultural market bringing together some of the Kansai region’s most celebrated chefs and restaurateurs has welcomed six new kitchens over the past few months, and is now expanding its repertoire with a major art exhibition.

On view until August 23, ‘Sagasu Monotachi’ features the work of self-taught Osaka street artist Toshiki. Inspired by the Los Angeles-born lowbrow movement of the late ’70s and the aesthetics of tokusatsu films, he blends Japanese motifs such as yokai and manga tropes with imagery borrowed from Western comic books.

This show draws on themes like childhood excitement, doubts that emerge in adolescence and the mysteries of the human spirit, featuring some 30 works born from a fascination with the unknown and created specifically for the exhibition.

All the artworks on display are available for purchase, as are posters, stickers, T-shirts and other merch sold by the artist at the venue on select days.

Fresh off his first LA show last summer, Toshiki recently created a massive mural in Brooklyn and has seen his international recognition grow since then. He now works with numerous musicians and clothing brands both in Japan and abroad, making him a name to watch in Osaka’s art scene.

‘Sagasu Monotachi’ is on at Time Out Market Osaka until August 23.
